Inside Shire House: Lichfield’s New Hub for Co-Working and Collaboration
Lichfield’s business community is set to benefit from an exciting new £2million co-working and office development. As someone lucky enough to be invited to the pre-opening event, I got an exclusive first look at Shire House, based on Birmingham Road. Officially opening in February, this ambitious project is set to breathe new life into a previously disused building, offering office lease and flexible co-working spaces for local businesses, freelancers, start ups, and of course, remote workers.

First Impressions
Stepping into Shire House, I was struck by how thoughtfully the space had been brought back to life after sitting empty for several years. Egon Hansen Architects and Fothergills Construction have done an incredible job transforming the building into a contemporary, vibrant workspace.
The interior combines sleek modern design with functionality. From the open, welcoming reception area to the well-appointed meeting rooms, every detail feels designed to foster productivity and collaboration.
Features
One of the most impressive aspects of Shire House is its flexibility. The facility boasts nine offices of varying sizes, making it an ideal option for teams as small as two or as large as 40. This versatility ensures that whether you’re a solo freelancer or a growing company, there’s space to suit your needs.
As well as offices, Shire House includes a number of meeting rooms, perfect for client presentations, brainstorming sessions, or hybrid team meetings. Some of the key features that stood out for me:
As an avid runner, the shower facilities are a huge USP
EV charging stations
Coffee tap (yes, a tap with coffee!)
Only a short drive or stroll to the many Lichfield Coffee Shops in the city centre

Freelancers seeking a change of scenery, startups looking for a central base, or established teams needing a collaborative space will all find something to love here. Its location on Birmingham Road ensures easy accessibility, making it a practical choice for those commuting from surrounding areas.
What sets it apart?
This £2million development isn’t just a functional office space—it’s a reinvigoration of a forgotten building. The collaboration between Egon Hansen Architects and Fothergills Construction is a testament to the vision of bringing value and vibrancy to the local area. Unlike traditional office spaces, Shire House is a creative work environment, offering something truly special to Lichfield.
