We Tried Every Coffee at Pret with a Subscription So You Don’t Have To

Ever stood at the Pret counter, paralysed by the sheer volume of choices? Us too. So, in the name of caffeinated journalism (and curiosity), we took the Pret Coffee Subscription for a proper spin and tried every coffee-based drink on the menu.

What follows is an honest, occasionally harsh, and always slightly over-caffeinated review of every coffee you can get for free with Pret’s subscription.

How We Did It

We signed up for the £30/month Pret subscription, donned our best freelancer uniform (hoodie, headphones, existential dread) and got to work sipping every caffeinated option available.

Each drink was ordered at least once, hot or iced, with the most common milk options. Same branch, same baristas, different levels of regret. The goal? To figure out what’s worth ordering – and what tastes like disappointment in a paper cup.

The Full Review Table of Pret Coffee’s

Drink Rating (out of 10) Best Milk Option Notes
Flat White 9 Almond Strong, punchy, baristas seem to care more when making this.
Cappuccino 8 Whole Foamy and comforting. A safe, frothy hug in a cup.
Latte 6 Oat Not bad, but a bit milky and uninspiring. Very 'Tuesday morning'.
Americano 7 Black Surprisingly decent. Won’t win awards but gets the job done.
Mocha 4 Oat Confused and claggy. Like someone dropped a brownie in a coffee and called it innovation.
Espresso 8 Black Strong and solid. A no-nonsense caffeine missile.
Iced Flat White 7 Oat Good on warmer days. Not as satisfying as the hot version.
Iced Latte 6 Almond Tastes like summer and bad decisions. Needs strong coffee to shine through.
Filter Coffee 3 Black Bitter, sad, and smells like missed deadlines. Skip.

Our Top Pret Coffee Picks

If you’re new to the subscription and don’t want to waste time (or taste buds), start with the gold standards:

Flat White (Almond or Whole Milk) – Bold, balanced, and consistently good. The sort of coffee that earns a nod of respect from the barista.

Espresso – Straight to the point. It’s short, sharp, and ideal when you’ve had four deadlines thrown at you before 10am.

Cappuccino – A warm, foamy comfort drink that doesn’t mess about. Tastes like you’ve got your life slightly together.

What drinks to Avoid in Pret

Some drinks just aren’t worth your time (or tongue):

Mocha – It’s neither a proper coffee nor a satisfying hot chocolate. An identity crisis in a cup.

Filter Coffee – The only thing it filters out is joy. Feels like something left over from a corporate training day.

Was It Worth It?

Across the month we drank around 40 coffees, which at Pret’s usual pricing is over £120 worth of drinks. That’s a lot of caffeine for £30.

Did we save money? Absolutely. Did we also become deeply over-caffeinated versions of ourselves? Also yes.

There’s a limit to how many warm beverages a human should consume before questioning all life choices – but from a value standpoint, this subscription pays for itself by week two.

Our Final Thoughts on the Pret Coffee Subscription

The Pret Coffee Subscription is a great deal if you like Pret’s drinks and frequent their shops regularly. You’ll get your money’s worth, and then some, but you’ll also learn a lot about your personal caffeine limits.

It’s ideal for:

Freelancers and remote workers – especially if Pret becomes your unofficial co-working space.

Busy commuters – who need that quick pick-me-up on the way to a delayed train.

Coffee enthusiasts(ish) – who aren’t too precious about beans and just want their fix fast.

Before you dive into a subscription, check out our 2025 guide to High Street Coffee Discounts and Loyalty Schemes – there might be a better brew deal for your daily routine.

Here’s to good coffee, dodgy Wi-Fi, and drinking your money’s worth.
